Walking on the Rheinsteig
The Middle Rhine Valley
8 days / 7 nights – approx. 120 km / 3.300 vm
The regions along the hiking trail Rheinsteig are legendary and characterized by countless castles, wine-growing villages and beautiful views. We picked the two most beautiful routes on the Rheinsteig: through the impressive Middle Rhine Valley which belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage sites. In the middle of vineyards romantic castles, monasteries and famous pilgrimage sites, such as the castles Freudenberg und Vollrad, the monastery Eberbach and St. Hildegard of the pilgrimage site Marienthal are waiting for you.
The Niederwald Memorial in Rüdesheim represents the transition to the Middle Rhine Valley. The paths on the mountains, e.g. over the legendary Loreley rock, offer unique views into the valley and over countless romantic castles and dream-like villages in which you can enjoy excellent wines in one of the traditional “Straußwirtschafen” in the evening. Your breath-taking tour ends as stylish as it started. In Koblenz, you find yourself in one of Germany’s eldest cities. At the mouth of Rhine and Mosel, the so-called “Deutsche Eck”, you discover 2000 years of history, e.g. the medieval town center, the citadels Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein or the Electoral Palace directly situated on the Rhine.
Tour Profile: Paths in the vineyards, lonely hiking trails and old paths along the riverside offer a lot of variety. For the climbs up to the mountains of the Middle Rhine Valley a certain level of fitness is required.
